Expect blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar, dried herb, and a touch of cocoa with full body and structured tannins. The 2016 Sonoma vintage was excellent.

The producer
Alexander Valley Vineyards was founded in 1962 on land that was once the homestead of Cyrus Alexander, the early settler for whom the AVA is named. The estate is family-owned by the Wetzel family. Cyrus is the estate's flagship Bordeaux blend, produced only in vintages deemed worthy.
