Lecinquevigne is Damilano’s classic, multi-vineyard Barolo. In the 2012, wild cherry and raspberry meet earthy woodland notes and a trace of star anise. Its velvety tannins make the wine less forbidding than some Nebbiolo, without losing the dry, savory structure that gives Barolo its food-friendly character.

The producer

Damilano calls Lecinquevigne its classic Barolo, blending Nebbiolo from several vineyard areas rather than isolating one cru. The family estate’s range also includes individual sites such as Cannubi, making Lecinquevigne an introduction to its broader view of Barolo.

What critics say

Wine Enthusiast’s Kerin O’Keefe rated the 2012 Lecinquevigne 91 points. She found woodland berry, forest floor, blue flower, tobacco and leather, then wild cherry, raspberry, cake spice and star anise across an accessible palate with velvety tannins.

Pairing

Recommended with: Mushroom Risotto; Petite Filet Mignon (porcini mushroom demi-glace); or Herbed Rack Of Lamb.
