Expect lemon, green apple, white peach, baking spice, and refined oak with medium body, taut texture, and bright acidity. The 2020 California vintage was challenging due to wildfires; producer-by-producer quality varied.

The producer
Grgich Hills Estate was founded in 1977 by Mike Grgich, the Croatian winemaker who made the famous 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay that won the 1976 Judgment of Paris — beating top white Burgundies. The estate's Chardonnay program is widely respected for restraint and structure rather than ripe-fruit opulence. Biodynamically and organically farmed.
What critics say
Grgich Hills Chardonnay receives consistently strong reviews and is respected as one of California's more restrained, age-worthy Chardonnays.
