Heitz's classic style emphasizes structure, mint and eucalyptus aromatics, and savory dried-herb notes alongside black currant and cedar. Tannins are firm and the oak treatment more restrained than many modern Napa Cabs. The 2016 vintage in Napa was excellent — concentrated and balanced.

The producer
Heitz Cellar was founded by Joe and Alice Heitz in 1961 and is one of Napa Valley's most historically important producers. The estate is best known for the Martha's Vineyard Cabernet, the first vineyard-designated Cabernet in California. The "Lot" designations refer to specific cellar bottlings selected for distinctive character.
What critics say
Heitz Lot bottlings draw consistent praise for their classic, restrained Napa style; specific scores for Lot C-91 are not known to me.
