La Fiorita’s 2016 Brunello brings together three estate sites in Montalcino. Dark cherry and raspberry are framed by tobacco and a cool menthol accent. It is full-bodied, with firm but velvety tannins and balancing acidity: a substantial Sangiovese whose structure remains as important as its ripe fruit.

The producer

La Fiorita was founded in the early 1990s and has been led by Natalie Oliveros since 2011. She advanced organic certification, added vineyards, and completed a two-level gravity-fed cellar for the 2019 harvest. The 2016 Brunello blended three estate sites, then spent 24 months in French-oak botti, four in steel and eighteen in bottle.

What critics say

Kerin O’Keefe awarded 95 points in Wine Enthusiast. She found menthol, dark-skinned fruit, new leather and sandalwood, then black cherry, raspberry, licorice and tobacco across a full-bodied frame, with firm velvety tannins and acidity preserving balance.
