The producer
Tignanello, first produced in 1971 by Marchesi Piero Antinori, is one of the original and most historically important Super Tuscans — it broke from Chianti DOC regulations to use Cabernet Sauvignon and French oak, helping launch the entire Super Tuscan movement. The Antinori family has been producing wine in Tuscany for over 600 years (26 generations).

Tignanello consistently receives scores in the mid- to high-90s from major critics and is regularly cited among Italy's most historically important wines.
