Aged extended periods in new American oak, Meshach typically shows blackberry, plum, dark chocolate, vanilla, and warming spice with full body and ripe tannins. At over 20 years of age, the 2001 should be in a mature drinking window with secondary notes of leather and dried fruit emerging.

The producer

Grant Burge Wines is a Barossa Valley producer founded by fifth-generation winemaker Grant Burge in 1988 (the Burge family has farmed in the Barossa since the 1860s). Meshach is the estate's flagship Shiraz, named after one of the three biblical figures from the Book of Daniel — Grant Burge also produces a Shadrach Cabernet.

What critics say

Meshach has consistently been one of the highest-regarded Barossa Shirazes, regularly receiving high-90s scores from Wine Spectator, Robert Parker, and James Halliday across multiple vintages.
