Casisano’s elevated southeastern Montalcino vineyards give context to this aromatic Brunello. The 2019 moves from rose and warm spice toward cherry and blackberry, with a floral lift at the finish. Linear tannins keep the fruit focused, offering structure without an exaggerated, heavy texture.

The producer

Founded in 1990 and acquired by the Tommasi family in 2015, Casisano occupies a natural terrace in southeastern Montalcino. Its elevated, ventilated vineyards give the estate a distinct setting within the appellation, where Sangiovese is the sole grape used for Brunello.

What critics say

Danielle Callegari awarded 92 points in Wine Enthusiast. She found an aromatic progression from peony, cherry blossom and dried rose to allspice, cardamom and thyme; cherry and blackberry deepen on the palate, ending with orange blossom and linear tannins.

Pairing

Recommended with: Herbed Rack Of Lamb; Lamb Cannelloni; or Petite Filet Mignon (porcini mushroom demi-glace).
