Silver Oak, "Double Magnum," Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, 1991

Silver Oak · 1991

$1,500Last in cellarTrophy

Silver Oak's signature shows dill, vanilla, and coconut from American oak alongside black currant, cherry, and cedar. The 1991 Napa vintage produced concentrated, age-worthy wines. Double magnum (3L) format ages more slowly than standard bottles, so this should still be drinking well if stored properly.

The producer

Silver Oak was founded in 1972 by Ray Duncan and Justin Meyer with the goal of producing Cabernet aged exclusively in American oak. The Napa Valley and Alexander Valley bottlings are the brand's two flagship wines, both released only after extended bottle aging at the winery.

What critics say

Silver Oak has a polarized critical reputation — beloved by consumers and many sommeliers for its distinctive American-oak signature, while some critics find the style too oak-driven. The 1991 vintage was generally well-received.
