At 16 years from vintage, expect mature notes of blackberry, dried plum, black pepper, smoked meat, leather, and integrated oak with full body and softened structured tannins. Cool-climate Russian River Syrah typically shows more pepper and savory character than warmer-climate examples. The 2009 California vintage was solid.
