Campo dei Gigli is Tenuta Sant’Antonio’s Amarone from its oldest vineyard, made using dried local grapes. In the 2016, forest berries, rose hip and black tea lead into a full, rounded palate. The texture flows smoothly but finishes compactly, balancing concentration with a distinctly savory aromatic edge.

The producer

Tenuta Sant’Antonio was founded by brothers Massimo, Armando, Tiziano and Paolo Castagnedi. Campo dei Gigli comes from the estate’s oldest vineyard, dedicated to its lily emblem. It highlights native Valpolicella grapes and the appassimento tradition, in which grapes dry before fermentation.

What critics say

Falstaff’s Othmar Kiem and Simon Staffler awarded the 2016 Campo dei Gigli 94 points. They found black tea, ripe forest berries, rose hip and light savory spice, with a full, radiant palate, elegant flow and compact finish.

Pairing

Recommended with: Petite Filet Mignon (Gorgonzola cream sauce) or Herbed Rack Of Lamb.
