Vietti’s Castiglione brings together Nebbiolo from several Barolo villages. The 2018 has a compact, juicy shape, with raspberry, dried orange and a light mint note. Firm tannins give the fragrant fruit a decidedly dry frame; this is structured Barolo rather than a soft, fruit-heavy red.

The producer
Carlo Vietti founded the estate in Castiglione Falletto in the late nineteenth century, where the winery still stands. Its classic Barolo draws from small vineyards across several communes; individual sites are vinified separately, then assembled to express the broader Barolo area.
What critics say
Falstaff critics Othmar Kiem and Simon Staffler scored the 2018 Castiglione 92 points. They found mint, raspberry, dried orange and floral notes, with a compact, juicy palate, gripping tannins and a youthful, still-untamed finish.
